Certification in RRA Surgery

Certification in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery indicates that a podiatrist has demonstrated a cognitive knowledge of podiatric surgery, including the diagnosis of general medical problems and surgical management of foot and ankle diseases, deformities, and/or trauma, and those structures that affect the foot, ankle, and leg.

The current qualifications include:

  • Completion of a four-year doctoral training program at a CPME-accredited podiatric medical school.
  • ABPS certification in Foot Surgery.
  • Completion of the residency training required for Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery certification at a program approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME).
  • Submission of a list of procedures through Podiatry Logging Service for Surgery demonstrating a diversity of surgical experience in reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery.
  • Approval by the ABPS Credentials Committee of complete reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery case documentation of procedures selected by ABPS from the list of procedures.
  • Passing Part I and Part II of the Certification in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery Examination.

Diplomates certified in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery must recertify every ten years.

Ten Years

Certificates for Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery are valid for ten years. Diplomates who have this certification must pass a recertification examination by the end of the tenth year to maintain their certification.
