Recognition
The American Board of Podiatric Surgery is recognized by the Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education under the authority of the American Podiatric Medical Association as the specialty board to conduct a certification process in podiatric surgery.
Recognition is an indication of satisfactory compliance with the recognition criteria as well as public approbation, attesting to the competency and proficiency of the specialty board to assure that only qualified podiatrists have obtained certified status.
CPME
The Council is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the US Secretary of Education as the accrediting agency for first professional degree programs in podiatric medicine. Unqualified recognitions by these organizations have recently been extended for the maximum periods available. The Council also holds membership in the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA).
House of Delegates
CPME has been delegated its accreditation role by the House of Delegates of the American Podiatric Medical Association. The House of Delegates is composed of representatives from each state’s podiatric medical society.
