The ABPS Documents are the definitive source of information for each examination.


It is imperative that prospective candidates familiarize themselves with the relevant documents before beginning the on-line application process. Our documents contain the specific requirements and step-by-step instructions to apply for an examination.

Also, our documents are updated annually, and are typically published in September or October on this website. A candidate may only use the ABPS document specific to the year that they are taking the examination.

Document title:

This document is updated annually and published to the ABPS web site in September or October. Candidates should only use the ABPS 110 specific to the year they will be taking the examination(s).

ABPS 111 Document

“Information and Requirements for Diplomate Self-Assessment”


This document is only relevant for ABPS members certified before 1991 in Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Diplomates certified before 1991 have lifetime certificates but must meet a self-assessment requirement every ten years. Pre-1991 members seeking to covert to separate certifications for Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery may do so through the pathway described in ABPS 112.

ABPS 112 Document

Document title:

“Information and Requirements: Diplomate Recertification and Foot and Ankle Diplomate Status Conversion”


The ABPS 112 governs diplomates certified after 1990 that have certificates for Foot Surgery or Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery. Each certificate issued after 1990 is time-limited to ten years.

ABPS 112 also details the requirements and process for pre-1991 diplomates in Foot and Ankle Surgery who wish to voluntarily convert to the two current certifications. This process requires the successful candidate to surrender their lifetime certificate.

ABPS 210 Document

This paper-based draft form is a prelude to the candidate entering the case list through their personal page on the ABPS web site. This document is downloaded in PDF format and is approximately 2.5mb in size.

ABPS 220 Document

Document title:

“Instructions for Preparing the Application and Case Documentation”


The ABPS 220 is specific to certification candidates submitting cases. The certification application and list of cases is submitted on-line through the candidate’s personal page on the ABPS web site. ABPS 220 details the types of cases to be submitted.

If the certification candidate’s list of cases is approved, ten cases from the Foot Surgery list are selected (five from the Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery case list). The candidate is required to submit complete documentation for the selected cases as detailed in ABPS 220. ABPS 220 is the definitive source of information for preparing both the initial list of cases and the complete documentation for the selected cases.

Every case on the List of Cases you submit must be fully documentable.

Requirement

Your name must be listed as "Surgeon" on the Operative Report and on at least one other chart document.

Document Definition:

The ABPS Bylaws govern the operations of the organization.

Advertising Policies of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
